Bernardo Loiacono, Ph.D.
he/him/his
Bernardo prioritizes building a strong rapport with his clients, values tailoring approaches to fit client needs and cultural backgrounds, and takes a strengths-based approach to clinical work. Bernardo earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from DePaul University and completed his predoctoral internship at the Childhood Trauma Treatment Program through Advocate hospital. During his training, he specialized in working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing mood-, behavior-, and trauma-related problems.
Bernardo is passionate about using evidence-based treatments and protocols to support/empower clients to develop and use skills to address their presenting problems. He has gained specialized training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), and cognitive behavioral therapy for mood disorders such as anxiety and depression.
I emphasize the building of trust and understanding through my work with clients, recognizing that it can be daunting to open up and share personal difficulties with another person. The vulnerability of therapeutic work is something I respect tremendously, and my goal with each client is for them to gain the confidence and self-efficacy required to address their concerns. Achieving therapy goals is often a process rather than an outcome, and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of my clients’ journey to feeling better.
