Katie is a down-to-earth therapist who values creating inclusive safe-spaces for clients to feel heard, encouraged, and accepted. She approaches all clients with warmth, support, and curiosity as they navigate their personal journey in therapy.

Katie Cunningham earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University and her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Illinois State University. She is a resourceful and creative licensed therapist with a demonstrated history of working with individuals, groups, and families. She specializes in helping people with mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, OCD,  relationship issues, family conflict, stress, low self-esteem, and life transitions. Katie is passionate about supporting and empowering neurodiverse clients, especially those exploring a new ADHD diagnosis. She has extensive training in trauma work, evidenced based treatments (CBT, ACT, DBT, and IFS) and LGBTQ+  affirming therapy. Although she specializes in working with adolescents and young adults, she is open to working with all age groups.

Through Katie’s therapeutic approach, clients are often able to deconstruct negative internalized messages and beliefs, increase feelings of empowerment, and foster healthier views of themselves and others. She is skillful at helping people manage discomfort and become more psychologically flexible. Additionally, Katie is passionate about speaking on these subjects for larger audiences, leading workshops/trainings, and free-lance writing about mental health subjects.

Out of genuine care for this work, I strive to build strong, trusting relationships with all of my clients. My approach is both gentle and empathetic, as well as direct and honest. I aim to model authenticity through the use of humor and relatability in moments when my client’s seem to need that the most.. I’m constantly inspired by the brave and challenging work that my clients do every day and I feel so lucky to be able to celebrate their progress each step of the way
