Rachel Weisbecker, M.A.

she/her/hers

Rachel takes pride in her interpersonal skills - approaching young children with sensitivity, teens with humor, and all with compassion and enthusiasm.

Rachel Weisbecker is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Southern Illinois University, where her training and experience have focused on working with children and adolescents. Prior to entering her doctoral program, Rachel earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University in 2018 and worked as a paraeducator and in clinical research with young children. As a student of the scientist-practitioner model, Rachel approaches her clinical work not only with an emphasis on evidence-based treatments, but also with a goal of pinpointing the specific aspects of treatment that work well for each individual client. Rachel pulls from a variety of treatment techniques from the umbrella of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to fit her clients’ needs, including parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) in addition to the essential components of CBT such as behavioral activation and cognitive reframing.

Rachel has particular experience helping parents navigate disruptive behaviors in their young children, teaching school-age children how to manage their emotions, and addressing symptoms of depression and anxiety in teens. Outside of the office, Rachel enjoys crossword puzzles, art museums, and searching for the best ice cream in Chicago!

My goal with every client is to help them learn and apply the tools they need to understand and respond to their individual concerns or stressors. Then I love to become their coach, cheering from the sidelines of their life and helping them learn how to independently face new obstacles. Witnessing my clients’ growth is my favorite part of being a therapist.
